8 Ways to Find A Copywriting Job In Your Town

Did you realize that you can find a copywriting job right in your home town? Even if you live in a relatively small community, you’ll be surprised at the amount of potential copywriting jobs that are around you and that you may not have even noticed before.

Here are 8 ways to tap into the copywriting jobs in your local community.

1. Using your copywriting skills craft a salesletter promoting your copywriting services. Create one generic form letter first. You can then customize it for each company or business that you are thinking of mailing to.

You can do this by first researching the company’s past mailings and ads. Then fill in any additional details that deal with that company’s specific needs.

Be careful not to say anything derogatory about their past or current mailings even if they are very badly written, because the person you’re trying to contact may just be the one who wrote them.

2. Have business cards made and hand them out every chance you get. Give them to your hairdresser, the local butcher, your car mechanic, the landscapers you hired, your doctor, your child’s orthodontist and practically anyone else.

The more cards you have out there the more chances you have of landing your next assignment.

3. Start building your portfolio by writing salescopy for your family members and friends. Then ask them for testimonials to display on your website and referrals of others who might benefit from your services.

4. Run a small classified or display in the business section of your local newspaper. You need to run the advertisement frequently and over a long period of time so that you come across as an established and reliable business person.

5. Write a column on the topic of advertising, marketing and copywriting for a local newspaper or small trade magazine. This is a great way to establish yourself as the ‘go to’ person in your niche market.
