Social media is for everyone, but not everyone uses it. Chances are that you already have an account with Facebook, if not more social platforms. But maybe you just dabble a little bit and talk to your family and friends on Facebook.
Or maybe you are pretty experienced and use social media to reach out to an audience, or get new customers for your small business or something. Everyone uses social media for different reasons ranging from a simple time waster to a main business strategy.
If you actually want to make money with social media though, you know it is harder than just setting up an account on Facebook and Twitter and watching the money roll in. Just having a list of “friends” or “followers” won’t make you money alone.
You need to be able to profit from them. So here are a few tips. First of all, you should be using social media everywhere. Do you have a website? If so you should use some sort of social plugin like “Digg Digg” that lets readers share your site through a number of social media sites. At the very least you need a “like this” and “tweet this” option somewhere on each page.
Having a way for people to comment on your blog posts through Facebook is another great way to get more content on your site, more activity, and more social proof that will help with SEO.
This advice works if you are an affiliate marketer or even a small business owner wanting to create some buzz about your new coffee or whatever service you offer.
After you have a decent following, whether it is friends or followers or anything else, you need a way to get them to become customers. Sure you can just send out a simple tweet that has an affiliate link and you write “buy this now” next to it. But conversions will probably be low.
You need to interact with your friends and followers and gain their trust and respect. Then you can occasionally promote things to them, or better yet offer a good freebie that gets them on your email list. Then you can promote to your FB friends whenever you feel like sending out a simple broadcast email.
