How To Finally Take Control Of Your Website

Are you in control of your own website, or is it being held up by your hosting company?

Are you trying to grow your web presence, but have a sneaky suspicion that your web designer is dodging your phone calls?

It can be pretty frustrating, trying to grow your online presence, but continually being sidetracked by technical issues. If you’re trying to grow your online presence, and are running into technical snags, the answer is to take control of your website.

Your website is the life-blood of your business and no one is more qualified to grow your business than you. Having a techie around to help is good, but too often website owners end up handing the keys to their business over to them.

For any type of success online, you need to have the ability to move at the pace that the rest of the world wide web moves, and unfortunately, by relying on an unmotivated webmaster, you can lose the game before you start.

There are two routes people take when deciding on building a website.

1. Static Websites

2. Content Management Websites

Both have pros and cons as it pertains to how much control you can have.

What’s the difference?

Static Websites

This is your basic website. People usually have them developed by a web designer, or an easier solution can be to purchase a web template, that you or your designer can work from.

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

Dynamic Websites

Although your regular static website can have “dynamic” functionality, the fundamental difference between a static website and a dynamic website, is the ease at which the user can make updates to their own website.

So think of blogs, as a great example of a dynamic website. A WordPress website is a very popular example of a dynamic, content management system, that allow you to edit your website, and easily upload new content.

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

I would highly recommend a combination of both of these types of sites. Whatever platform you use, just keep in mind that there are some very simple tools that allow you to control your website.

Many of these services are available online, and are created specifically to help non-technical people get full control over their website. Whether you need to make a range of changes to your static site, or even just want to quickly set up a blog, there are simple solutions that give back the power and control to you, the website owner!

How Does It Work?

Many of these web services allow you to just login to your website, then start typing directly on your website, just like you would for a letter in Microsoft Word. We call that a WYSIWYG editor. (What You See Is What You Get.)

Changes are live, the instant you click publish. A good company will also provide great service if you ever run into any issues, or have a technical question.
